Both Akshay and Ajay want June 6, date vacated by Aamir Khan
Late afternoon on January 20 saw star-hijinks of another order. After Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan announced their decision to move P.K. to December 25 — from its original date of June 6 — Akshay Kumar and Vipul Shah moved quickly to pick the latter date for Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty, directed by A Murugadoss.
A couple of hours later, Ajay Devgn also announced the release of his Prabhu Dheva-directed Action Jackson on the same date. Incidentally, both films feature Sonakshi Sinha as the leading lady and were initially scheduled to release on May 1.
So, has May 1 suddenly lost favour with Bollywood? Since the Lok Sabha elections are expected to be held sometime between the end of April end and beginning of May, big-ticket ventures do not see the Labour/Maharashtra Day weekend as an ideal release period.
Vipul said Ajay had called Sanjeev Lamba (of Reliance Entertainment) and asked him to shift Holiday... from May 1 because he was planning to bring Action Jackson on that date. “It was only after this that we chose June 6. We had an internal meeting and decided to come out with our film on the date vacated by P.K,” says Vipul, adding, “To our surprise, two hours later, Ajay also announced the same date for his film.”
Gordhan Tanwani, the producer of Action Jackson, says, “On Saturday, we had our internal meeting and decided to come out on June 6. But on Monday, we learnt thatHoliday… too has announced the same release date.” Reiterating that they’ll release the film on June 6, he maintains, “We’ll sort out this matter. One of us will have to go back to May 1.”
